First sod turns on $56 million redevelopment at Warringal Private

Construction on Warringal Private Hospital’s $56 million expansion and redevelopment commences today (Tuesday, 30 April 2013) with the turning of the sod at the hospital, located in Heidelberg, Victoria. Victorian Health Minister David Davis, joined Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex, Warringal Hospital CEO Graham Clarke, and Mayor of Banyule Council Cr Wayne Phillips, to mark the start of the development of a state-of-the-art medical facility. The project, funded by Ramsay Health Care, will see the hospital grow to a 215-bed facility and more than double its number of operating theatres.

The redevelopment will include the construction of new facilities including;

  • 2 surgical wards
  • 5 operating theatres
  • 64 private single rooms with ensuites
  • 12 bay recovery unit
  • A custom-designed central sterilising department
  • 170 car spaces

The redevelopment will offer a comprehensive range of health services by developing existing services, facilities and technology, and will include specialised medical treatment options for orthopaedics, cardiothoracic, urology, gynaecology, breast / general / colorectal / oncology / plastics / endoscopy, and ear nose and throat surgery.

Warringal Hospital’s CEO Mr Clarke said today’s milestone marked a significant moment in the history of the hospital giving it the edge to compete with the state’s leading medical treatment centres.

“Our vision for Warringal is fast becoming a reality and this redevelopment will benefit our patients for generations to come,” Mr Clarke said.

“The expansion will enable Warringal to continue to retain and attract the country’s leading medical experts by providing them with the professional environment required to deliver the best treatments available to patients.”

Residents in the north-eastern corridor will benefit from the redevelopment which will transform Warringal Private into a full-service, flagship Ramsay Health Care Hospital, allowing the hospital to continue to deliver personalised, comprehensive care for patients.

“Warringal had been operating to full capacity for several years and this expansion will help to meet the growing demand for private hospital services in the region,” said Warringal Private Hospital’s Dr Matt Benson.

The Warringal Private Hospital redevelopment is scheduled for completion in late 2014.
