Warringal Private Hospital Redevelopment

Mar 27, 2014

Warringal Private Hospital’s Redevelopment which started May 1 2013 is well underway and progressing on schedule and will see the hospital expand to 215 beds and a total of 11 operating theatres.

Included as part of this redevelopment are:

  • 64 private single rooms with ensuites
  • 5 state of the art integrated operating theatres
  • 12 bay recovery unit
  • A custom-designed central sterilising department
  • Multi-level car parking of 270 car spaces

Warringal CEO Petra Snelleman advised that hand over of car parks has been eagerly anticipated and is due to occur 6 May this year, “Patient access has been a challenge since works began and it will be a significant improvement for our patients and their families to have an expanded onsite parking capacity at Warringal, particularly given the high demand for parking within the medical precinct we share with Austin Health.”

With the 3 levels of basement and 4 levels of superstructure complete, work over the months ahead will comprise fit out façade works and infrastructure preparation for the structural connection to the existing hospital.  The current Redevelopment Project completion is scheduled for November 6 this year.

In recognition of the growing demand for private hospital services, Ramsay have approved a second phase of redevelopment be designed.  Formal approval has been received for the secondary consent drawings lodged with Banyule Council capturing changes to the current scheme to ensure the construction is aesthetically pleasing and provides design consistency.

Drawings for the additional 3 levels of the second stage of development, including 4additional operating theatres, porte-cochere and amended car park entry were lodged with the Council in a Sect. 72 application on 24 October 2013, with further information submitted on 22 November.

Formal advertising has been undertaken with a total of 6 objections received.  Meetings have now been held with the Councillors to agree the car parking strategy and also with the Council and Objectors to discuss key issues.  Refined Site Context plans are currently being produced for Council to issue to the Objectors, most of whom have long standing community concerns relating to traffic, parking and noise.  Due to the size of the Project, the Approval for the Application will be determined by Banyule Council at their next sitting in 2014.  A Notice of Intent will then be publicised.

Warringal Private is looking forward to the grand opening of our new development late 2014 and to future growth and development to support the healthcare needs of our community in the years ahead.
