Graduate Nursing Program

Who are we as a communityWarringal Private Hospital are passionate about delivering high quality care to every patient interaction that they provide. This may be through a casual conversation in the corridor or through more formal nursing interventions. The communication between a nurse and patient is vital to building a patient’s confidence in their healthcare journey.

About the programWarringal Private Hospital offers a comprehensive 12 month general or perioperative graduate nurse program that is graduate focused. We build the program to suit the individual therefore our graduate numbers may be lower than other hospitals. Past graduates have expressed that this has been helpful to their learning and accessing feedback in a timely manner. We also believe that a healthy work/life balance is important to our staff members and encourage this through flexible rostering and fulltime and part time positions being available as part of the program.

General programThis program is available to Enrolled Nurses without notation and Registered Nurses.

Two rotations are held throughout the year in the medical and surgical wards. This however is again adaptable to the individual. We pride our program on being versatile and ever changing to what the graduate may be interested in completing. However if you aren’t sure the structured medical/surgical program is also available.

If you do have a keen interest in oncology nursing this can be made available through your graduate program as an example… in essence the opportunities are endless in our program.

The perioperative programWe have 10 theatres that have recently been refurbished with state of the art surgical facilities. We provide a variety of specialities within this department which include Day Surgery, Cardiac Procedure Centre, Anaesthetic, Scrub/Scout and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit.

This program is available to Enrolled Nurses without notation and Registered Nurses.

Flexible rotations are available to suit your individual learning goals.

The theatre team are always open to new learners and willing to share their knowledge and expertise.

SupportThe supportive leadership team will work closely with you throughout your graduate program. You will also be allocated a preceptor who will act as your professional buddy and will complete your necessary documentation. Our nurses love teaching as much as they love being taught.

Regular educational topics are delivered that are specific to the graduates learning journey. Such topics include: care of the deteriorating patient, fluid balance management, confidence in clinical handover and documentation to name a few.

E learning and the Ramsay library are also accessible as a staff member and provide useful articles for reflection.

Victorian Study Days are also held regularly throughout the year that provide the graduate an opportunity to meet other Ramsay graduates across the state and educational topics are provided.

The transition from student to graduate is a daunting and exciting time. Do I know everything? What if I forget? The quick answer to this is...no but that’s ok.

We are aware the transition is a large milestone and one you probably won’t ever come close to doing again in your career. Warringal Private will assist you professionally in developing key characteristics to reduce the gap by building on your clinical competence, knowledge and behaviors appropriate to professional nursing practice.

Opportunities after the graduate program

Upon completion of the graduate program the options are wide and varied. You can choose to partake in post graduate studies, career advancement courses and varied professional development opportunities. We believe the graduate program is the foundation for your nursing career and foster a program that builds critical thinking through professional development that you can adapt to any professional path you choose to take.
