Green Light for Warringal Expansion

A $54 million dollar redevelopment and expansion of Warringal Private Hospital in Heidelberg Victoria, which will see the hospital grow to a 205 bed facility with 10 operating theatres, will commence in March 2013. The long-awaited redevelopment, which will include 64 new private single rooms with ensuites, five new operating theatres and 170 additional car spaces, is expected to be completed in 19 months from commencement of construction, opening in late 2014.

Warringal Private Hospital is an acute medical/surgical hospital providing healthcare for the north eastern and Greater Melbourne community and has been a leading provider of healthcare for this community for over 33 years, achieving national and international recognition in many fields.

Hospital CEO Graham Clarke said Warringal had been operating to full capacity for several years and this expansion would help to meet the growing demand for private hospitals services in the region.

"This will be the most significant development at the hospital since it opened 33 years ago. The new operating theatres will allow us to meet the growing demand for surgical services in this region.

"The new single beds will allow us to increase our capacity for medical and surgical patients."

Mr Clarke said the Hospital would begin to shortlist builders for the redevelopment and a selection would be made by mid December 2012.

"The redevelopment will include an entirely new 4 storey building constructed adjacent to the existing hospital with a multilevel subterranean carpark. Business as usual will continue at the hospital during construction."

He said the development had already received the relevant approvals from VCAT.
