Dr Jai Raman is an academic cardiothoracic surgeon with over 21 years of experience as a consultant and attending surgeon, with clinical and operative experience in Australia, India and USA.
He has performed over 6100 cardiac operations and 1000 thoracic operations, with particular expertise in:
- minimally invasive cardiac surgery
- surgery for heart failure (non-transplant & transplant)
- complex valve repair and aortic surgery
- arterial grafting in coronary surgery and arrhythmia surgery
Dr Raman also has strong research interest in:
- translating technology with expertise in new dynamic chemical imaging (point of care pathology without excisional biopsy)
- device safety (evaluation of safety and simulation for new cardiovascular devices)
- innovative treatments of valvular heart disease (beating heart and extra-cardiac treatment of Functional Mitral Regurgitation)
- plate fixation of the sternum and ribs (an evolving technology now being adopted around the world)
He has contributed to building expertise and teams in complex cardiac surgery at the University of Melbourne, University of Chicago, Rush University Medical Center and Oregon Health and Science University. He has published over 235 research publications, 2 theses and 2 books as editor.
