A/Prof Perini has a broad and deep experience in the care of patients with liver, bile ducts and pancreas diseases, either by open or minimally invasive surgery.

A/Prof Marcos Perini is a General Surgeon accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) with extensive training in Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and Liver Transplant surgery in Australia and internationally. He is also an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgery – University of Melbourne and a consultant surgeon at the HPB and Liver Transplant Unit - Department of Surgery, Austin Hospital.

A/Prof Perini has a broad and deep experience in the care of patients with liver, bile ducts and pancreas diseases, either by open or minimally invasive surgery. His formal qualifications also includes a PhD and a Master’s Degree in Science.

Dr Marcos Perini has published more than 100 peer studies in international peer-reviewed scientific journals focusing on diseases of the liver and pancreas as well as liver transplantation. He has been invited to lecture in many national and international conferences due to his expertise.

A/Prof Marcos Perini’s contributions to HPB surgery have spanned participation and development of basic science research programs (mainly colorectal liver metastases), supervision of research students at various levels, successful submission of grant applications, administrative commitments, and engagement with professional organisations (including the Royal Australasian College of Surgeon - RACS and the International HepatoPancreatoBiliary Association – IHPBA).

His major interests are in both basic, translational and clinical research in the field of HPB surgery and liver transplantation, as well as surgical education and the development of medically based collaborative projects at both national and international levels.

Dr Marcos believes in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care, including the involvement of dietitians, social workers and supplemental medical colleagues (such as Oncologists, Radiologists and other surgical specialties) early in the decision-making process of a patient’s treatment.

Working as a surgeon in the HPB and Liver Transplant field, he is always contactable for any emergencies or unscheduled patient or GP needs, either via mobile phone or via his private rooms and hospital phone.
