Dr Umbreen Hafeez is a consultant Medical Oncologist. Her clinical areas of interest are genitourinary cancers and breast cancer. Genitourinary cancers include prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancer. However, she also has expertise in managing other types of cancers and in palliative care. Dr Hafeez is appointed to the Austin Hospital as a Medical Oncologist and is also a professional practice tutor for University of Melbourne medical students.
Dr Hafeez completed foundation years of training at Rotherham General Hospital in South Yorkshire, followed by core medical training at Whittington Hospital in North London. In 2008, she became a member of The Royal College of Physicians in London, United Kingdom. She started Oncology training at Kent Oncology Centre and completed Post Graduate Certificate in Oncology from The Institute of Cancer Research in London, United Kingdom. After moving to Australia, she trained at Canberra Hospital and Austin Hospital and was awarded the Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2017.
Umbreen have a strong involvement in cancer research and completing PhD with the Tumour Targeting Laboratory at Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute. Her research focuses on developing and characterizing novel anti-ErbB3 antibodies to combat cancer. Her research envisions making a significant difference in the lives of people battling cancer. She is also passionate about patient-centered care and committed to promoting and enhancing high-quality care, strengthening research skills and access, and advocating health equity and Umbreen is a clinical trial investigator for multiple genitourinary cancer clinical trials at the Austin Hospital. Some of these trials may be suitable for patients that she sees in her private rooms.
Private patients can be seen at 66 Darebin Street, Heidelberg, who are usually treated at Warringal Private Hospital. Dr Hafeez works with a collaborative team of cancer specialists, including surgeons, radiation oncologists, cancer nurses and other allied health specialists.
Outside of work, Umbreen enjoys cycling, bushwalking, and hiking.
