Sam Bewsher is a Victorian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with training in all aspects of hip and knee replacement surgery, from simple and difficult primary procedures through to revision surgery and the treatment of deep periprosthetic joint infections. He also maintains a strong interest in all aspects of orthopaedic trauma, as well as general lower limb orthopaedic and sports conditions.

Originally from Hobart, Sam attended the University of Newcastle Medical School before returning to Melbourne after his intern year with his young family and settling in the Diamond Valley area where he still resides today. His basic and advanced orthopaedic surgical training was undertaken around greater Melbourne and regional Victoria, spending two-and-a-half years in Victoria’s 2 major trauma centres (Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred), and also completing 6-month terms in each of Melbourne’s 3 paediatric centres (Monash Health, the Royal Children’s Hospital and Sunshine Hospital). Upon obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Fellowship of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, Sam spent 2019 as a staff specialist at The Northern Hospital prior completing his Clinical Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Surgery in 2020 under the supervision of Mr Neil Bergman, an internationally renowned expert in the field.

Sam retains his public hospital appointment at Northern Health, where he remains on the on-call trauma roster and is heavily involved in the education of young orthopaedic surgical trainees. His completed and ongoing research interests surround not only arthroplasty but also patellofemoral joint instability and the treatment of lower limb traumatic injuries.

Sam’s private practice is based at Warringal Private Hospital in Heidelberg, with rooms in the adjoining Medical Centre. He also consults monthly at Kilmore Hospital, and is happy to take referrals for assessment and management in his subspecialty areas of interest, as well as for general and sports lower limb orthopaedic issues and all areas of orthopaedic trauma. Urgent referrals can be triaged accordingly to be seen in a timely manner.
