Dr Krishna Bhagwat is a leading surgeon who has carried out general and emergency adult cardiac-thoracic surgery for more than 20 years. He’s worked for private and public patients in Melbourne’s major tertiary hospitals since 2008, and prior to that was a cardiothoracic surgeon in major hospitals in Mumbai, India.
Dr Bhagwat’s areas of interest include general cardiac surgery, total arterial coronary artery revascularisation, as well as minimally-invasive valve repair and replacement surgery.
In a quest to produce better patient outcomes and increase survival rates, Dr Bhagwat continually expands his knowledge. He regularly presents at medical conferences and has had his research published in leading medical journals. Dr Bhagwat is passionate about improving methods used for: minimally invasive thoracic and cardiac surgery; thoracic oncology via a uniportal (keyhole) approach; and newer generation transcatheter heart valves (THVs). As part of a commitment to help nurture the next generation of surgeons, Dr Bhagwat is an active member of the Academy of Surgical Educators with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is also a college-appointed Supervisor of Surgical Education and Training (SET) in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
